Rayon fiber synthesis experiment:

Materials:copper carbonate, ammonia solution, dilute sulfuric acid, cotton wool and syringe.

Steps:

1.Measure 4g of copper carbonate

2.Mix 4 grams of copper carbonate with 40ml of ammonia solution

3.Filter the solution with filtering paper

4.Add cotton wool to the filtered solution(The process where cellulose in the cotton will dissolve)

Results:

Unfortunately, the experiment did not go as we planned. The cotton wool did not dissove in the solution so we were not able to test for rayon.

What is rayon?

It is a fiber that means ‘shining thread’. Due to the high price of silk, it was developed to make a replacement fiber and is called recycled fiber because it is made by regenerating wood pulp cellulose.
